Hello all,

I am wondering EfeNDy, how are those IR Illuminators working out for you? I wanted to buy the same ones off eBay, but was kinda reluctant to do so… Another thing, do you really need 4 to get some nice blobs? Wouldn’t two on each corner be enough?

Hi Asadeddin

after reading fairlane’s experiences with IR illuminators, I bought 4. I directly point illuminators to the screen so I get a lot of ir diffused which gets you good blobs. I also get very good blobs in a well lit room. I didnt try to reflect them from walls or aluminum foil to use less illuminators so I cant comment on using less than 4. But I know examples of people using walls or back side of foil to reflect IR light to use less illuminators. have a search in the forums.
hope this helps.
cheers

Hi Efendy,

You said you bought the IR illuminators from China.  Mind giving us the link or contact for the IR illuminators?  Coz I’m in China and am trying to build a new DI table as well.

Hi Progen

this is the auction link I bought them from. unfortunately they are from hong kong, i remembered them from china sorry. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280260095149

they were the most economical at that time. from 80 cm height, each one directly illuminates 1/4 of a 30” screen. I think you could get good results also with bouncing them off from walls and using a band pass filter. havent tried this though.
cheers

Hi great project effendy smile

Just a couple of questions

Am I to understand that the projection actually passes through the tablecloth diffuser and still looks quite clear and good?

Cheers.

Yeah Efendy’s right, the table cloth acts as a really good projection surface and is a nice cheap option for a diffusion material as well. (Great for AUD$2 )

I also tried the material (1 layer) with the lights on, and even though the table is directly under a 75W light, the results were very good.
It all depends on how much IR you are emitting however, (DI in my case and a fair amount of light wink ) when you’re talking about DI in a well-lit room.

Overall nice picture using the cloth. I’ll try and post some photos too soon…

Nice find Efendy! Thanks for your contribution and keep us posted with your results!

Hi Efendy and Fairlane.

Also from Australia here.
Just wondering where abouts you bought the material from?

Tim

Hey Tim, and welcome to the forums!

EfeNDy found the material from Sam’s Warehouse. (originally called “The Warehouse")

See this link for a list of stores http://catalogues.samswarehouse.com.au/portal/storelocator/state/VIC

Hi Fairlane,

Thanks heaps. Found there is one around the corner from me… =)

Efendy: I found that thread but couldnt actully see where it was purchased from. Thanks for the find though, the tracing paper I was using would start to crumple after being exposed to air for 1 day.

Wonderful! looks very good!!

I have 2 questions, help me plz!

1, what did you do with the acrylic and white plastic table cloth ? did you put the white plastic table cloth upon the acrylic ? or under the acrylic ?
my point is, which side of acylic did you use for the screen ?  because I found that if use the upside, the downside will reflex the IR light, if use downside, the finger is not so clear (acrylic at least about 5mm)

2, so many MT software, so cool, did you develop them or find somewhere?

Thank you
