thanks. not even wide angle, just a projector with an extremely short throw distance (toshiba tdp-ex something), the sphere itself has a large enough diameter that it really doesn’t matter. i’ll try and put a video together at some point but don’t have a decent video camera so no guarantees.

Well done, jbolton. Did you end up using spray-on frost for the results in those pics? If so I would love to see a video of the responsiveness. I’m playing with the sray as well.

i did end up using the spray on frosting but i would still avoid it at all costs. it works for a proof of concept but does not diffuse the infrared light nearly enough. I was finding that despite trying any possible configuration with tbeta i was creating a blob a little under an inch away from the surface of the acrylic. Part of the problem might be the shape and the condition of this acyrlic when i started but i still wasn’t very impressed with the frosting. i’m actually trying to get in contact with the acrylic supplier to see if i can get a hold of a professionally frosted piece.

Ahh. That seems to be what I’ve noticed with my glass, as well. IT works great for projection, not so great for IR. I’m just hesitant to try etching cream or sandblasting because it’s permanent.

thought i’d provide an update. To say the least this is still at the prototype stage, still working on the proper image deformations. I’m sure the two apps look familiar but thought I should post.
