Hey all,

This is a preliminary test of a medium-to-large scale multi-touch wall I am working on called “Tequilapedia.” It’s sole purpose is to provide the viewer/user with information on more than 60 different brands of Tequila. This was a test of the wall using the bundled Touchlib App called PhotoApp to make sure everything was working correctly. Fine tuning and calibration of the IR illuminators still has to happen and when it does, I will post another video. Thanks for watching!

Of course:

#1.  I’m running Alexp’s Touchlib revision (see below for notes) on a MacBook Pro running Windows XP professional.

#2.  Projector is a Sharp XR-32X running at 1024x768 native through DVI (so super nice and crisp!)

#3.  Camera is a Microsoft VX-6000 --- Odd thing here is that during calibration it runs at or above 30fps but when driving PhotoApp or my Tequilapedia app (both Flash .exe’s), it drops down to between 10fps and 12fps :-( Not sure if I’m doing something wrong there, but still working on figuring everything out.

I’m currently only running the Mouse Driver on Tequilapedia because I’m such a noob that I’m having difficulties figuring out how to plug flash apps into Touchlib.  Surely more time and studying of preexisting apps will alleviate this.

however…

I may just want to use the mouse driver if I can figure out how to get rid of the cursor itself.  My concern about porting the app to Touchlib itself is that if people are taking flash photos near the wall, it may go haywire.  Just using the mouse driver means that it will simply move the cursor, which doesn’t matter since any time the wall is touched the cursor will default back to the contact point.  Also, this first version won’t necessarily have anything “multi-touchish” about it.  One finger will do most of the tricks.
Although, something of note is that buttons on my flash app have to be tapped twice to activate.  Not sure what is causing this, but it’s not a TouchLib thing.  It happens on a normal computer as well.

As far as illuminators are concerned, I didn’t have the time or budget to build a frame behind the glass and my attempts at it resulted in horrendous hot spots that I couldn’t work around (is this a shortcoming of window film?).  Instead my illuminators are located outside on the floor directly below the glass.  I used a rail of IR LEDs that I built for a failed FTIR surface (I sandblasted my plexi...bad idea) and the plywood you see there is acting as a temporary shutter to prevent the spread of IR and keep it focused directly in front of the glass.  I’ll be building a facade that should blend nicely into the wall.  With this setup I’m getting some of the best and most consistently accurate blobs ever.  I only wish I could say I knew what I was doing going into this. wink

Here’s an updated video of some scrolling.

Incidentally, if you’re a Flash/AS3 ringer, please feel free to stop by my thread:  http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/3439/ I’ve hit a snag :-(

Thanks!
