hey guys I’m talking from Brazil and I wanna know if could you help me?
So I have some doubts about silicone rubber, watching some
videos I saw people using Xylol(xylene) and Tolune I was wondering if can I change
this for another solvent because here in my city I couldn’t find anyone
can I try thinner? or something like that?

thanks

hi, Regis & welcome to the forum , that’s right it could be a pain to find xilol or toluene , but check in the paint stores most thinner are based on it ;
Check also the Tinkerman post , you can also use white spirit or acetone .

Hi Regis!

My name is Gerson Tessler and I’m a novice in the NUI Group.

I’ll try to make my first silicon layer this weekend and I’m courious how was your expirience using thinner.

Have you tried making the silicone layer with:

1. silicon selant (diluted with thinner) over drafting paper using a painting roll.
2. silicon selant (not diluted) over drafting paper using a painting roll.

Some people says they use acetone, have you tried that ?

Hi Gerson, I’ve tried silicone selant dilute with thinner but how our friend JIMIHERTZ said I used too much thinner
tomorrow I’ll try to use few thinner and try to use acetone too, however I was thinking to use silicone pure (not diluted)
what do you think about it? here in my city I just can buy thinner or acetone if this solvents wouldn’t work fine
I don’t know what I would do! as soon as I finish everything tomorrow I’ll post here!!

Regis,

I’ll try the same stuff and technics today.
I’ll report my results to you too.

I live in Porto Alegre - RS and there’s a lot of chemical industries near by.
Yesterday I asked some poeple about Tuolene and Xylene and they told me that is possible to find those solvents here. This week I’ll try to find them.
I’ll post my findings about it too.

Best regards!

Gerson Tessler

Hi everyone. Looks like I’m with the same problem. I’m from Portugal and I can’t find the silicone that everyone recommends so I bought a silicone that is appropriate for acrylic but yesterday I made a small experience before putting directly over the acrylic because I didn’t want to mess things up. After a few minutes it becomed white! I used synthetic diluent but maybe I used too much diluent.
Regis what do you mean about “thinner”? Can you explainit in portuguese? It’s because I don’t know the meaning of that and it can be a solution for me…
