Okey, this will be the project thread for the DSI-table I’m currently planning/building at work.

Equipment:
MT-Technology: DSI
Projector: To be decided
Camera: PS3-Eye with M12 mount and 850nm band pass filter
Acrylics: Endlighten XL 8mm
Dimensions (H/W/D): ~96/106/76cm (Will probably change a few times or so… wink )
Projection Size: ~80x50cm
Projection Surface: Evonik Rhhm 7D006 RP
IR-LEDs: 850nm 390 IR-Ribon from Environmental Lights.

And two images from SolidWorks of how the design looks like right now. This is definitely not the final design. I will probably come up with new ideas during the work. I made a cross-section of the images so the internal layers in the table frame can be seen.

you could use more leds , about 150 to have better results

jimihertz: Yeah, I’ve actually prepared for putting led frames on all four sides. Would it be better to put 150 LEDs arranged around all four sides or go with 75 on just two sides?

I am planning an almost identcal screen - DSI table with Endlighten. Mainly because of the possiblities of fiducial markers. your setup looks good but dont you need a projection screen? Be great to hear how you get on and I would be happy to help sharing ideas and information.

benl: Yep, I didn’t include the projection screen in the drawings. I will use some kind of projection screen layered between the Endlighten and the protective layer. Haven’t yet decided what kind though, but it’s easy to replace an inexpensive one (like tracing paper) with something like Rosco or something even better than that.

Great stuff, just making sure i wasn’t missing out on something tongue laugh . Just read this thread http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/4685/ and it seemed like a good alternative to the projection screen and protective layer.

I’m thinking about using these LEDs instead of the Osrams: http://uk.farnell.com/knowledge-on/ope5685/ir-emitter-5mm-850nm/dp/4890930?_requestid=261477

The SFH 485P is much wider (±40°) than the OPE5685 (±22°) but is much more expensive. I’m also planning to add LEDs to the short sides of the frame so in total around 180 of them. Opinions on that?

I was thinking about finding the best materials for the project like Endlitten and PLEXIGLAS 7D006 (so far i have only looked at thes screen compilation), find other people who want them and buy them wholesale, distributing them for less money. we should look into all the materials so that we can get the best for less money. so far i think Endlitten and PLEXIGLAS 7D006 is the best for what we need. we still need to look into leds, projectors and housing for all of it

Found the SFH 485P was pretty cheap on conrad.se so I just ordered 210 of them and 40 15R 0.5W resistors.
Also ordered a 1100x850mm 8mm endlighten acrylic from a swedish company.

Point of no return! smile

Hey Erik,

did you receive your EndLighten yet?
My table has the same size and I can’t find EndLighten XL with 10 mm here in Germany without buying a whole sheet.
Now I’m thinking about going down to 8 mm thickness, but I’m afraid that it will bend.
How flexible is your 8 mm sheet?

No, I haven’t received the endlighten yet so I don’t know how flexible it is. My endlighten sheet will have 30mm support on all four sides and will be layered with some kind of back projection sheet. The layering will probably stabilize the construction and the idea is that you shouldn’t have to apply any pressure onto the surface for getting blobs.

Received 210 Osram SFH485P and 40 resistors today though. And I’ve started to mill the LED-frame. smile

We received the Endlighten yesterday. 110x85cm was larger than I thought… :d

Still haven’t had the time to finish the led frames but hopefully I can start on that next week. Next purchase will be a PS3-cam (The modified ones from PeauProduction looks like a good solution.)

Therefore I built a rapid prototype of my table first smile

Hi Erik,
Where did you source the Endlighten from and what sort of cost?  I have just started planning a similar table to yours but am in the UK and have not been able to find a supplier yet.
