Hi all! I´m student of digital media in Germany. So my English is not very clean wink

First of all I would like to say that you are really doing a great job with this community! You inspired me to go further in this material.

Anyway, I want to write my diploma thesis about multitouch usability and navigation concepts. Additionally I want to write some application in Flash implementing my assumptions.

At the moment I´m searching for an application idea to implement. It´s very hard to find something that have not came out yet =(
I´m generally searching for an application purpose that would not work at all with using only a normal touch screen,
because I have seen that the most apps using multitouch would also work only using one finger to accomplish the given tasks.
I´m wondering if there is something in the real-world and everyday life that must be done with more fingers or the whole hand (or both) and that can be adapted to an digital application ...

I´ve already personal contact to Christian Moore who´s also in this community…

Can you provide me with some inspirations?

Thank you for your help!

Greetings from Germany
Francesco

first of all: welcome!

you might just want to think of everyday actions you do with at least 2 fingers, or maybe even 2 hands.. Just sum up the events you do daily. I’m sure there’s more than enough that you wouldn’t be able to do with just 1 finger. Good luck on the thesis!

I’d love to see a WYSIWYG CSS editor in Flash.  Move/Scale/Rotate elements via multitouch, and then export that info as CSS.

There are WYSIWYG editors for traditional computing (so it might not be as far out there as you’d like), but it would be tremendously more useful than current offerings for sculpting a web design from scratch.

Multitouch technology will make a great diploma thesis, but don’t put the cart before the horse.  Idioms aside, as with any application that one develops, you need to have a problem that you are trying to solve first.  Think about problems and computing difficulties that could be made more intuitive and natural via the use of multitouch.  I think if you identify and solve a real problem, instead of using multitouch for the sake of it, you will end up with one excellent diploma thesis.  Good luck man smile

Hiho Francesco,

I think the whole area of multiuser-multitouch could use further ideas and applications: There are a few 1-1-interaction-apps like that consulting thing I’ve seen somewhere here as well as games (like the 1-to-n user Pong) and of course the obligatory bars (Hey, do multitouch-developers have severe alcohol-problem? just kiddin… wink), but I guess there is much more in it…

PS: Welcome, fellow German smile.

Hi all!

First of all thank you for your helpful ideas!!!

I´ve finally found a topic for my diploma thesis: “Multitouch Interfaces for Text-editing”.
The basic idea is to develop a guest book based on multitouch. A guest book consists of two
components: The guest book archive and the several entries. One component of an entry is
the text input tool and the other is the text editing (layouting) tool.

The primary mission however, is to evaluate an appropriate text input solution based on existing approaches
and own ideas. So the main question will be
“What is the most suitable and natural form to type in and format (bold, italic, etc.) text via multitouch?”

If anyone has suggestions or helpful links or may be public papers about that please tell me.

The urgent problem though is the multitouch table setup. I want to build a mobile table so I could carry it to
any place. Are there any concepts existing yet? What about the component parts for a table. Is there a
recommended setup?

Thank you for your advices!!!
