im have a look around and cant find the answer to my question so id thought i would post to see if anyone can help.
im making a dsi lcd MMT using endlighten acrylic and getting blobs so far so good but i wanted to but a sheet of acrylic or glass on top to stop the endlighten getting damaged.
the question is, would this stop the blobs or would/should this still work?????
If you put acrylic on top that should work. I didn’t have good results with glass on top, although I had a diffuser in between the glass and endlighten since I used a projector instead of an LCD. But in your case you don’t need a diffuser so maybe glass would work also.
gfunk2k how is the LCD image once it travels through the Endlighten? Fuzzy, out of focus, looks great...?
Hey Peau, to be honest i havent tried it with the screen yet but the rest is working.
would you think that the screen would go fuzzy or out of focus and if so what can i do to fix it? im worried now lol
Good question!
I have tested it with a piece of Endlighten and my LCD in a very dark room and it looks good. This is just the Endlighten on top, nothing else.
Another member or two have reported though that his image was hazzy looking in a lit room, so it may not work, though I have not tested it myself.
well ive just put it on top of my laptop screen in a well lit room and no problems or fussiness so looking good but ive noticed its scratched alot all ready and ive been so careful with it.
so if i did put a thin peace of acrylic on top would or should it still work?
Yup, Endlighten is easily scratched. If you are asking if the whole optical multitouch setup will work, then yes, it should. If you are asking if the image will look the same with the clear acrylic layer on top...it sounds like you are the one to test that
cool, cool. well i will order some acrylic and give it a go, cant imagine it would affect the picture but ya never know.
again thanks for your help, your a legend!
@gfunk2k In theory, any layer over the enlighten will destroy the DSI effect as there is no single “break point” in the internal refraction of IR. Something as thin as “cling wrap” may work, but that may not be the look you’re looking for.
Also, does enlighten scratch on the surface that easily? So placing it in a room where it will be used as a coffee table with plates and cups going on top of it would be a bad idea?

Through some searching, I have found that there is Abrasion-Resistant Endlighten! Why hasn’t the community picked up on this? I have attached a brochure.

Hey EliasE,
I’ve had that pdf linked on my site here for quite some time now (There are also two other Endlighten fact/brochure sheets on there too). Scratch resistant Endlighten would really only be useful for an LCD setup, as projector based setups need to have a projection layer on top of the Endlighten anyways. Another reason is also that getting an AR1 (or AR2) coating on any piece of acrylic, even just plain ole clear acrylic adds a fairly steep cost to the sheet (though I cant say I’ve priced out the AR1 Endlighten, but I have to regular acrylic).
