I’m working on a flat sensor LCD FTIR setup based loosely on the FLATIR project by Ramon Hofer, Daniel Naeff and Andreas Kunz ( http://e-collection.ethbib.ethz.ch/eserv/eth:41461/eth-41461-01.pdf ) I’m starting with a 10*8cm prototype before I make a full scale 17” display. Ive managed to get satisfactory results with a C# app communicating to an Arduino which reads from a pair of TCL542 ADCs, each linked to 11 IR phototransistors. To eliminate compliated background subtract equations (my current program takes an average of all the sensor values and then measures data from sensors with values larger than the average) I want to avoid IR leakage from wide angle LEDs so i’m going to stick with the SFH485 LEDs. I have 2 options available; the SFH 485-2 for 90 AU cents or the SFH 485 for 55 each. There is no data in the data sheets comparing the two types of SFH 485, is there any advantage of the SFH485-2 over the SFH485?

I ended up ordering a few of each to compare and it turns out in they are identical in every way, you cant tell the difference between the IR intensity. So if you are buying SFH485 LEDs dont bother getting the SFH485-2s.
