hey i have been reading through the forums lately and have been trying to find out if you can get the multi touch display to work with any or most windows or Linux apps. Is there software that enables windows to directly use the blobs location like multiple mice or does the use of the device require specific programs build to utilize multi touch devices?? I hope you can understand what I’m trying to ask. Is there a way to use it with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop etc…

in general: yes you have to write apps specifically for multitouch as normal apps only accept mouse and keyboard input. but there is a mousedriver with touchlib if you want to emulate the mouse, but I try to stay as far away as possible from emulating the mouse as possible because that kind of limits you in the sense of the awesome interaction methods that multitouch allows.

ok. I didn’t know that touchlib had the mouse emulation. When you use the mouse emulation does it override the device from utilizing all the blobs until you turn the emulator off?? In other words when you are using the emulator and you open a program written for multitouch does the emulator override the ability to use multiple touch points until the mouse emulator is turned off??

yes.you cannot use the mouse emulator and another multitouch app at the same time.not because it overrides it but because only one app can use the webcam at a time.

We, at Open Table use Java for our detection and can pass raw mouse events to Swing Applications hosted inside of a table application.

So - yes, they can - but I think that we’re the exception, not the rule.
