Hello all!
Nice to meet you. I’m CJ Rojo, hailing from Long Island, NY, USA. I’m a Computer Science graduate with some working experience, having written Java, C, C++, C#, Prolog, Python, and web code. I have some graphics experience (I’ve created a DirectDraw based video game called Sogarman - a sort of Megaman clone, available on the web - google “Sogarman"), some plug-in writing experience, and some compiler/interpreter coding experience. And, like any programmer, I have a few theories I’d eventually like to test out.
I’ve been longing for a richer way to interact with the desktop. I saw Han’s presentation a while back and thought “I wish I had one of those.” Then, this January, I returned to school for a CS Masters, and I got to thinking that I might be able to use such a device for future projects. I’ll be able to prototype new interfaces for visualization and visual exploration of data, and maybe even use it as the foundation for a masters project. In addition to that, I figure I’ll have an amazing time doing it.
So I’m really happy that I found this place =)
I have a lot of skills I can contribute to anyone who needs help with anything. Though I’m fairly alien to hardware issues (I almost electrocuted and lacerated myself with a dremel while sanding the acrylic, and I know I’m going to mess up my LED rig), I’m very good with software & I love jumping into big projects. I’m also good at optimizing, and I’m currently learning how to exploit the programmability of GPUs to speed up general computation. So hopefully I’ll be at least a little useful.
I haven’t started taking pictures yet, but I will tomorrow. Right now I have a half-sanded acrylic piece in my garage, 30’’ by 35’’, and an infrared lens & LEDs on the way. I still need resistors, stripboard, wire, projector, webcam, and frame). I’ll also set up a page to document my efforts, and I’ll try to make it blog-like. I’ll also document when I mess up =)
