I’ve been digging around for more MT software ideas and came up with the thought of receiving RSS feeds from a news site (CNN) and parsing them and displaying them in a similar manner to MMAPro. This has turned out quite nicely, as a matter of fact, and over the past few days, I’ve got the whole demo working but not with MT controls yet, only with the mouse.

Here’s a little screenshot, below.

Later I’ll implement the ability to choose from a variety of news (RSS) sources and the user will be able to switch the source right within the application. Thanks for looking! wink

That looks good.  Have you seen the news-feed globe application for MS Surface? It’s pretty trick, gets newsfeeds from MSNBC, displays them as little panels on a sphere. You can spin the sphere and pull off panels to read, and also play video clips of the news. Maybe there’s some videos available on youtube, not checked myself.

Update: I’ve got the application to work with any URL of the users choice as long as the URL leads to a *.RSS file on the Internet (e.g. - http://www.somesite.com/rss/rssfeed.rss)

hmmm so the question now that I watched the MS Surface RSS reader demo is whether or not to make it like that sphere interface… Any suggestions?

Yes, that’s kind-of what I was going for except I was thinking along the lines of 2D… thanks though!

By the way, I compiled a version of MTNews of what I have done so far. (it’s only usable with the mouse eight now for testing purposes.) Tomorow I will upload. wink

Here’s the mouse demo (sorry for the late timing but it’s Thanksgiving!)

Controls:
click and drag a newsbox to move
while clicking a newsbox, scroll to zoom newsbox
while clicking a newsbox, right click as well to rotate it 90 degrees
press ‘A’ to go to the next source on the sources.txt list
press ‘S’ to open the sources selection panel.

That’s just about it! Thanks for looking!
