Hi there !

I am trying to find a few IR emitters for my setup. I have noticed that a lot of people on this forum use the 48 LED Infrared emitter and found this link to a cheap source for them : http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15235

However, it is specified that it doesn’t come with a power supply/power cord. Does any one know where I could find some ?

Thanks,

Yann

Hi , normally you will use a computer power supply , you have to do some tricks , but unfortunately I have no Idea , many users have done this I only remember Mashinegun.

Hey faeder!
I’m at work and just arrived my ordered IR emmiter (which is JUST LIKE yours). I can advise you (that is what i’m willing to do) to cut the power connector of the IR emmiter and then get the 2 wires inside and just connect them to +12V and GND of a PC power supply. I’ll do that when I go home, so if you want to wait for my results smile

and a little tip: In the center of your IR illuminator there is a photo-sensor. If you want to have your illuminator ALWAYS ON you have to cover the sensor with a dark tape or something, just not to let the ambient light senses the photo sensor. This is because this IR illuminator work without ambient light. If it sees ambient light will be off wink

@faeder: I’ve just test it! Too much light on my box! and yes...you have to cover that sensor so the illuminator will work ALWAYS smile

Hey !

Prowler, thanks for the link. I ordered one powerplug and one emitter today. I hope everything will be compatible from a socket point of view (I mean the plug/socket going inside the emitter, not the one that will connect to my wall) :D

And thanks for the tips, Papakion. I did read that there was a light sensor inside but I probably woudn’t have thought about covering it before a long time smile Did you open the emitter to put something under the glass (if there is any as I can’t really see in the merchant pictures) or did you put it above the glass ?

Thanks also for the idea of using my computer power supply. I didn’t think about that. However, I am not good enough in electric work to so something like this yet. It doesn’t seem to be very complicated though, so I guess I will have a try anyway. Not much to loose, and I love experimenting. I am planning on using at least four of those, probably even 6, in the future, so I think that having 6 emitters plugged into one multi-socket thingy, plus the computer and the projector will be a huge load on my house electric system. Perhaps using this technique will help lower it (again, electricity is not my thing at all).

Cheers,

Yann

Hi faeder smile

For the power supply of the projector and the IR Emitters you may use a second PC power supply smile You have to jumper the green wire (Power ON) to a black wire (GND) (on the PSU connector) and you are ready smile I’m intend to use a second PSU cause I want my pc to run with separate electric supply. But both PC-PSU and Lightning-PSU will be connect together for Switch On.
For the sensor part of the illuminator, I’ve just open the top glass (easily unscrew the top cover) and I put a small piece of tape. Success wink I connected to an external power supply 12V worked like a harm!

Hi Papakion,

Thanks for the clarification on the tape for the sensor.

As for the power supply jumper, you wouldn’t happen to have a few photos of your setup, so that I can see more clearly what you’re saying ?

Thanks,

Yann

I will when I’ll get back to home. Now I’m at work so it’s difficult. But I can provide you with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_power_supply (scroll down to “24-pin ATX12V 2.x power supply connector"). You see the pins of a typical pc power supply. Connect Green cable (pin 16) with Black cable (pin 17) (that is what I meant “jumper") and plug your PSU to A/C and power it on (if it has a power on/off switch).  On pins 10 and 11 you’ll get pure 12V smile
