Our projection/compliant surface is made up of tracing paper with a silicone coating on one side. Currently, it is just about 1mm above of the acrylic but the paper ends up sticking to the acrylic after pressing on it. The paper should be stretched flat high enough above the acrylic to “bounce back” after being pressed upon. After some very rough tests, I see that 3mm might be a possibllity. I was wondering how much distance other people have between the compliant surface and acrylic.

hi , I’m not sure but I guess there should not be a space between the tracing paper and the Acrylic , if the paper sticks to the glass then your silicon didn’t cured/dried well .

Hmm, anyone else have any input on this? I never really understood how far things had to be with the diagrams found on most posts such as

--------- Projection surface
_______ Silicone
~~~~~~ Acrylic
As far as I can tell ( I haven’t actually done it myself) there should be NO space between the compliant surface and the acrylic.  As far as the silicone sticking, I’d have to go with the previous answer. It may not have dried correctly, or if it did, maybe it wasn’t the correct type.
Going with rear DI set up. Only in the Planning/testing stage so far.
My two cents: Thin the silicone a bit more and make it a very thin layer when rolling it.
I did a few tests with tracing paper and found that if the silicone is to sticky it will stick to the acrylic. So finding something to thin it with that won’t stop it from curing would be your best bet. A quick test is to thin out just silicone one tracing paper and after 12 hours test it. Should be cured and get no sticking.
