hi guys , now it is the second week trying to make this compliant surface using tinkerman method , at last I began doubting the rollers I used , find attached two pictures of them , another little question , if I made it right I should be seeing a better blob than bare acrylic no matter what right ? , even if I made only one coat ?
Please provide help
thanks in advance

The 2n’d picture looks like the one i have for mine.

To answer you question about better blobs.
It’s not to get huge blobs its to get consistent blobs while dragging.

Here check out my pics.

the last two. One shows blobs with 2 layers of silicone rolled onto tracing paper and the other is on bare acrylic.
The blobs on the bare acrylic are bright but when you drag you loose them. The blobs on tracing paper stay that good through dragging.

Hope that helps.

is your only problem that your blobs are rather small?  because that’s not necessarily a bad thing, i t just means you get more accurate touch points.

Thanks guys , now I understand I don’t have to get brighter blobs with Tinkerman’s method , however most of the times I don’t get any blobs at all and sometimes I get bad blobs but I have to push hard , so I’ve got more questions if you allow me.

1. Does the type of the tracing paper make a difference ? , I’m only using one type until now with my experiments.
2. The Type of Silicon ? , right now I only know Silicon Sealant for home use , another one used for gluing cars doors and windows glasses , another one I don’t know what it’s usage specifically but I bought it because I found RTV written on it smile.
3. The yellow roller has a foam shape , but it is big and fat not like the one Tinkerman used or even YoYonis ones , if I understand it well the foam shape made a special texture that helps in coupling with acrylic and then released back , due to it’s size may be the texture I made is - may be - not good , the other roller is small with very very small holes in it , I don’t know if this even make any type of texture.

any answers/recommendations would be much appreciated
.

When you say you have to push hard to get blobs, it could also mean that you don’t have enough light in your acrylic. Have you checked that?

hi Gregi and thanks for the reply , yeah I can confirm that I have a good light , I’m only pushing hard when I put the compliant surface and sometimes I don’t get any blobs at all , with bare acrylic I can produce very nice blobs with a slight touch , if I don’t just lose them while dragging I wouldn’t get into this compliant surface issue

OK thats good.
So when I made a roll-on silicone I used a roller that was quite dense and hard and I made 2 layers right away. I never tried with one layer and it gave acceptable results. I had to push slightly when dragging, but it was trackable. Oh and I even had a poured silicone on the plexi. So basically it was 3 layers.
The reason why I made a roll-on on my poured silicone (sorta clear) was that I made that layer too thin (0.5mm) because I thought that would make it better. But in fact it shouldn’t be too thin neither.
So I suggest you try with the harder roller and make 2 or maybe 3 layers.

Guys IT DID WORK NOW , with first coat done bye the yellow one , and other 2 coats done by the other roller , with RTV silicon without thinning . now at least I can continue to experiment for the best compliant surface knowing that I already got a good one

I attached two picture No1 with a slight touch and No2 with a reasonable force with finger touching the bare acrylic

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help and I hope this thread help someone else
