So I had a notebook crap out on me and now I’m building my first MT device.  I’m using FTIR with LED.  I’m wanting to make this device more of a desktop or table top solution (meaning something you can set on your desk and work on) so it’d be angled and I think I’ve figured out how to make the casing since the camera only has to be about 1ft from the Endlighten (check me on that).  Any what I’m wondering for now is what I should get my Acrylic cut to.  My LCD is a 15.4” widescreen display and I made some rough measurements (340mm x 215mm x 1mm).  So about how much Endlighten should I leave around the edges of the LCD?  I was thinking something like 5 to 10mm on each side.  Will this disturb the LED or cause any problems?

On the 50” DSI setups I’ve done, I typically left about 2 inches from where the LEDs started (the edge of the Endlighten) and the place where the image started (where the fingers would begin to be tracked)

How do you plan on using a LCD from a laptop? Are you also going to use the laptop as your computer?

Controller Board for my LCD

There’s the link to the controller board.  I’m probably going to be holding off any further progress until I can test it with my panel.  Also I found this information on a post in the afterdawn forums.  Here’s a link to the thread Laptop LCD to Monitor.

One more ?uestion.  What can I use to cut the acrylic with?  Will a skill saw suffice or do I need to use special tools?

After looking at some of your designs I became kind off confused.  I see you have your LEDs above the top layer of acrylic.  Is there any advantage of this method?  I though the LEDs needed to be against the acrylic so it could bounce through it.  I guess I still have some more learning to do.
