Hey there!

we just released the new 0.9 Version of MT4j.

For those who don’t know it yet:

MT4j - Multitouch for Java - is an open source, cross platform Java development framework, created for rapid
developement of graphically rich 2D or 3D applications and is designed to support different kinds of
input devices with a special focus on multitouch support.

Many bugs have have been fixed, new features added and countless little improvements have been made.
The new version is faster, less memory hungry and more stable in general.

One of the exciting new features is the native Windows 7 (multi-)touch support which enables MT4j applications to run on most of the new multi-touch hardware solutions.

So, what else is new in version 0.9?
» more examples! Interactive Water, MT-Shell application loader, Air-Hockey and more
» new components - MTList, MTOverlayContainer, MTSceneWindow..
» easy to use 2D physics engine integration with examples
» some memory leaks fixed, consumes less in general, loads faster
» lots of bug fixes and improvements
» all examples have been overhauled and improved
» scene transitions more robust, ability to use transition effects (blend, fade, slide etc, easily extendable)
» you can add global touch feedback with one line of code
» multiple mice support on linux
» new and improved tap&hold gesture, new gesture example scene, showing all available gestures and how to use them

Get the new version now at:
http://www.mt4j.org/mediawiki/index.php/Downloads
The installation instruction can be found here:
http://www.mt4j.org/mediawiki/index.php/Installation
And the documentation here:
http://www.mt4j.org/mediawiki/index.php/Documentation
Homepage:
http://www.mt4j.org/

MT4j is for developing your own multi-touch applications, but it also contains many cool ready to use example applications.

And as images say more than words, a few teasers:
mtshell1s.jpg
The MT-Shell example application allows to start other MT4j applications and display them in a gallery.

mtshell2s.jpg
More than one application can be run at the same time in windowed or fullscreen mode.

Touch Tails - Draw ribbons with your fingers that come to life afterwards!

mapss.png
The mapping application now allows to switch between different map providers
(Microsoft, Open Street Maps, Blue Marble..) with a cool sliding menu.
You can o/c push the foto button and search for geo-tagged flickr photos, that are displayed where they where taken.

modelss.png
There is now a dedicated 3D models scene that allows to
display and manipulate models (Arcball, rotate, scale)

drawings.png
The drawing app has been completely overhauled and now allows
to select a color, texture brush, brush width and to save your image.

In the physics playground you can throw shapes around.
It shows how easy it is to integrate physics into MT4j now.

Try it out guys smile

Cheers,
Chris

I was just finishing up a tutorial on how to run the MT4j examples wink
You can find the tutorial here:

Tell me if you got it working with these instructions.

Awesome framework. I haven’t been able to find a flash framework or bridge for my Dell SX2210T monitor, but this works very nicely with it.  Now I just need to learn Java.

Seriously awesome work. I’m not a big fan of Java but I don’t think anyone has come close to the sheer amount of good stuff that has been put into this framework. Was able to open and run projects without any problems whatsoever, perfect for my uses. Thanks!

At long last I found some time to deal with your Framework, and its absolutly brilliant!!
It shows that java is also a platform for frontend development and motivated me to make some more stuff with java.
Do you have any Roadmap for your Project? I think this is a platform for further contributions from the community.
Glückwunsch aus der Heimat!

Thanks for the kind words guys! smile

@Sloopidoopi:
Glad that you finally tried it out wink I also think that java+opengl is a pretty powerful combination for frontend development if done right.
Theres no official roadmap document yet. If you want to know what is planned or still needs to be done you can check the ToDo.txt file in the MT4j distribution (or svn). Thats my MT4j todo list.
Other than that, the plan is of course to get the community involved to make the functionality even broader and to build a repository of multi-touch aware widgets and multi-touch gestures to facilitate development. The project is now on google code (http://code.google.com/p/mt4j/) to open up the development process. If anyone is interested in contributing you can talk to me on IRC - channel #mt4j.

Cheers!
