Has anyone attempted to or developed an All-In-One Multi-touch program? As in, you don’t need ReActivision or CCV to send information to a seperate program? I guess what I am getting at is a fully stable program that opens when the PC starts (like Bumptop) and does all of the tracking in the background. It would be nice if there were a program that would work as flawlessly as the Microsoft Surface does in the demonstration. I feel creative enough to try and design something like this, however, it is waaayyy beyond my knowledge to even attempt this. With that being said, what set of skills would I need to know in order to develop this type of program? I’m some what fluent with the computer but not as much as most.

You need to define ‘all in one’ a bit more. Keep in mind surface isn’t ‘all in one’ as in it also has a tracker running in the background; it’s really no different than having CCV or reactivation running in the background. If you want the tracker to load up on system start, all you have to do is add the program to your system startup. Microsoft surface (since that’s the example used) has it’s problems and setup time too; don’t be fooled into thinking it doesn’t just because the videos we see don’t show this part.

haha, sorry, I guess I was pretty vague in my description. What I’m really getting at is that there needs to be a program that has the tracking software running in the background while having a cool multi-touch GUI, sort of like an operating system. Like, you boot the computer, instead of getting your normal Windows/OSX/Linux desktop, you get a wicked sweet multi-touch desktop, and you have menus/buttons w/e to perform certain functions like games, media player and such all the while the tracking software is running in the background but accessible to where you can calibrate and make changes to w/e it is you need. Just dreaming here I guess.

Ah yeah, this has been brought up a number of times. Have a search for ‘multitouch OS’ or something to that degree. It’s only of a matter of time though before things become this way from the main operating systems. The iPad is an example of things to come and all major OSs now have native touch support.

Gotcha, btw thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, i’ve been learning a lot here on this forum. If I search for multi-touch operating system I get tons of stuff on the BumpTop program and how Google bought it. I suppose Google has something up their sleeves for a MultiTouch opearting system. So I’m actually to start going to college soon to learn software coding (hopefully) I think I’m going to make it a goal of mine to design a multi-touch OS. Thanks again for your help

i’m working on bringing an easier win7 mt experience, this is not yet on my teasing post on my blog, but i’ve planned several project : a mt suite for win7 that bring both tracking and drivers all together as win services, and a cystomized win7 dvd with all those features and some apps build in for a plug and play use… will keep you posted through my blog don’t worry… is this what you mean by all in one for example ?

Kind of sort of, mainly a good looking program more streamlined to make it look like a Multi-Touch operating system. They’ve made Bumptop multi-touch compatible and Windows 7 can be used with multi-touch but neither one actually has the tracking software built in and running in the background. To my knowledge, in order to get the multi-touch experience so far right now, you must open (or have it open on start up automatically) ReActivision or CCV, either way you have a window open and running unless you minimize it. And then open the application you want to use for Multi-Touch. I was just saying how it would be neat to have a fully multi-touch GUI that contained everything necessary for a multi-touch table. No “you need to download this and then this and then unzip this and use this program to pack this”. Just boot up and there you go, touch away and if need be calibrate your hardware. I just wish I knew more about software, otherwise I would just show yall lol

well it is easier to developp all separatly, but that’s what i wanna do with win 7, you would install my customed version, calibrate and that’s it… and if you don’t want to reinstall all the os, you would use the suite…
btw i love bumptop, i was part of the test team until last week (bought by google, no distribution available anymore, but i keep some copies… wink )

Awesome, I’m looking forward to your customized Win7, I’ll have to follow your blog. I’m a big fan of Bumptop as well, I use it even though I don’t have a multi touch table yet wink I’m excited to see what Google is going to stir up with this. Thanks for your help!

wait, so...the multi-touch features on Bumptop cant be used unless you have the purchased version?? If so, I’m screwed until Google releases their version of whatever it is they are working on.

Bump top costs $29. If you want the MT functionality, it’s a pretty inexpensive piece of software.

That said, I bought it and almost never use it. It doesn’t work as good as I thought it would (or maybe I’m just not using it correctly?).
